Iqrup+Ritz, the Delhi-based high-end furnishing brand, experiments with different styles and era to create a matchless line of furniture for its discerning clientele
Indian mother-daughter duo Iqrup and Ritika Dhamija of Iqrup + Ritz are a noted design team who have built a successful furniture brand based on contemporary design narrative and expert craftsmanship. The duo has also been working on bespoke luxury interior projects at their sister company Iqrup Design for over 30 years. Incidentally, Iqrup’s first-ever project was a residence in Delhi designed by MF Husain which is very close to her heart.
The concept creation
The story of Iqrup+Ritz, the retail brand, began when Ritika (aka Ritz) could not find the right furniture to do up her apartment; her response was to create a brand that would sell contemporary designs that valued aesthetics while being easily accessible to the masses. Since its inception in 2014, Iqrup + Ritz have shipped thousands of products worldwide and have become synonymous with quality and affordable luxury. The brand has a dedicated in-house design team but they are known to collaborate with celebrated designers from around the world to create quality, handcrafted furniture.
Iqrup was trained at the Inchbald School of Design in London while Ritika lives there, so reciprocally their designs are largely influenced by English style and design. Their designs are evocative of simple, clean lines and they are particularly fond of the mid-century period. The duo travel between London and Delhi offices to launch new collections every few months.
“At Iqrup + Ritz, we take classic shapes from periods, styles and international influences bringing them up to date for contemporary living. The accent is on scale, proportion, form, comfort and detail. Most of our pieces are designed in-house and in conjunction with some of the best designers/makers around the world. Safomasi has created an exclusive range of upholstery fabrics for the Iqrup + Ritz and while our Bauhaus Collection was done in collaboration with White Pomegranate,” says Ritika Dhamija, Co- Founder, Iqrup + Ritz.
Take on Inspiration
The duo draws inspiration from different styles and period to provide the perfect ingredients to suit individual taste. From exploring Scandinavian modern, mid-century modern, colonial, bohemian chic and English classic and more, the wide of furniture range and style is a complete delight.
“Travelling from a young age within India and then later in Europe played a large part in awakening my design sensibility. Before Instagram made it fashionable, it was a big joke in the family that every time we went on holiday, 99 percent of our holiday snaps were of grills, railings, cornices and arches. Simple everyday things like having tea in my garden in the afternoon are inspirational for me,” state Iqrup Dhamija, Co-Founder, Iqrup + Ritz and Founder, Iqrup Design.
“I love looking at beautiful objects. Nature is big source of inspiration. I’m also lucky to live right next to some great museums and galleries like the Victoria and Albert Museum and the auction house Christies, where I often pop-in for a quick dose of inspiration,” adds Ritika.
Iqrup + Ritz recently got an amazing response for their soft launch in UK at the London Design Festival last September. “Our first collections were inspired by mid-century modern, boho-chic and classic English styles. We plan to launch new collections every few months; our constantly evolving collections are great for mixing and matching to create a unique space,” states Iqrup.
Their new collection will be inspired by Cubanism, Retro style of the 60s and 70s and a Modern Dandy Collection with an original silhouette and style that is purely modern with elements to create the ultimate seating arrangement.
Last year, they launched their exclusive online store and have already shipped thousands of products. They’ve also furnished a corporate headquarters in Hyderabad, a showroom in Bombay, a holiday home in Kasauli and residences in Delhi, Gurgaon, Baroda, Ludhiana and Kolkata. Their exclusive pieces have also been shipped to customers to as far as Vienna, Dubai and Harare. From what we see, the brand is clearly going places.
