ZZ Design creates a contemporary and timeless residence for Mumbai home owners by infusing luxury and art in its décor
Architect Krupa and Zubin Zainuddin of ZZ Architects were roped in by a real estate developer, while renovating his 3,500 sq ft apartment in the posh locality of Juhu, Mumabi. And the brief was to design a timeless space. The family home to three generations was undergoing a renovation after 20 years and the clients wanted the home to look just as beautiful even after 20 years from now. There was no dearth of luxury brands involved in the design elements of the space.
White flooring was an obvious choice for the clients. Exuding a luxurious affair, the project grew organically while engaging the clients at each step. True to Zubin and Krupa’s signature contemporary design, the living room showcases the Bianco Neve flooring, Saint Laurent black stone for back cladding and sofas from Longhi/Versace.
The windows and openings were altered to give larger format openings. The art and furniture integrated well to form a unique cohesive space such as the custom-made wall clock with birds swirling around to an enigmatic piece by Bose Krishnamachari against the Versace Bubble Sofa.
The dining room featuring the tables and dinette finished in silver leafing were customised by ZZ architects on the site. The chairs were sourced from Versace and the chandeliers from Shimera. The Dali-inspired melting vase on the side table serves as a conversation starter.
For the master bedroom, the onyx backlit bed with leather headboard stands out while the lacquered wardrobe adds to the panache. The master bathroom along with the walk-in wardrobe displays the beautiful inlay on the floor in mother of pearl; the wall cladding and drawers below counters are finished in mother of pearl as well. The doors are done up in lacquer and veneer. The other main bathroom is done up in sodalite marble and bianco neve for flooring while the shutters were finished in lacquer.
The kid’s room is the most interesting space according to the designers. The kid’s room displays a customised bunk bed with a study and is completed in a seamless resin finish to achieve the final look. The step threads leading to the upper bunk bed are done up in Corian. The cabinets and study table are finished in lacquer while the bathroom is lavishly done up in Bisazza and marble for wall cladding. A wall finish of a graphic library adds intense character to this space.
The entire project was completed in a span of six months. The use of luxurious materials and carefully handpicked art pieces offer an artistic take on a contemporary home.
