Leading international sanitation giant, Roca, brings in its centenary year (1917-2017) with a brand new edition of the jumpthegap International Design contest. This year’s edition, which will be the seventh in the series, is open both to professionals (architects and designers), and students. The competition invites participants to submit innovative designs for the bathroom space. It will feature a €10,000 prize giveaway in each category. Additionally, this year, Roca has introduced the We are Water Foundation contest for sustainable sanitation designs, offering a handsome €6,000 prize for the winner.
“This event is aimed at creative individuals who think towards the future whilst designing today, and we hope to once again draw new, innovative and sustainable concepts from our participants,” said Isabel Roig, Managing Director of BCD (Barcelona Design Centre), launching the competition at the Dubai Design Week 2016. Jumpthegap was started in 2004, in collaboration with BCD, and has attracted about 14,600 participants in the past, from 112 countries across the world. The competition is gaining more traction in the country, with more than 500 participants from India in the sixth edition.
This year, Roca’s emphasis on sustainability articulates the obligation to produce products that are designed to conserve water, energy, and earth’s other dwindling resources. The fact that the competition is open not only to professionals, but also to students, shows off the brand’s foresight into conservation for the future. Apart from sustainability, this year’s focus is on safety, comfort, efficiency and technical innovation.
The jury will be led by acclaimed German architect and principal of Zaha Hadid Architects, Patrik Schumacher. The jury will also include other world renowned names, like Anjali Srinivasan (India), Director of the ChoChoMa studios and winner of the Swarovski Designer of the Future Award 2016, Josep Congost (Spain), Roca Design and Innovation Director; Vladimir Pirojkov, (Russia), CEO OF High Complexity Prototyping Centre KINETICA; Isabel Roig; Director of EMBT Miralles Tagliabue, Benedetta Tagliabue (Italy); Valentin Vodev (Bulgaria), Designer and Founder Vodev Studio and Ma Yansong, (China), 2014 “Young Global Leaders” (YGL) Award.
